Toronto, ON, Oct. 16, 2025 — SUNSET Renewable Asset Management Inc. is pleased to announce that it has been named a recipient of a Canada Clean50 Top Project Award for its Renewable Energy Waste Recycling initiative. The award recognizes projects that demonstrate measurable environmental impact, innovation, and leadership in advancing Canada’s clean economy.
The Clean50 Top Project Awards are presented annually by Canada’s Clean50, in partnership with Delta Management Group, to highlight the most impactful sustainability initiatives completed in the past two years. SUNSET’s project was selected for its contribution to the development of a circular economy for renewable energy infrastructure, addressing the growing challenge of end-of-life solar, wind, and battery assets.
SUNSET’s award-winning initiative delivers a comprehensive solution for the responsible decommissioning and recycling of renewable energy systems. Central to the project is a proprietary, fully automated mobile solar deconstruction unit capable of processing end-of-life solar modules on-site and recovering high-value materials for reuse. This approach significantly reduces landfill waste, lowers transportation emissions, and supports domestic supply chains for critical materials.
The project responds to a critical gap in renewable energy lifecycle management as Canada accelerates deployment of clean energy technologies. By enabling the recovery, reuse, and recycling of renewable energy components, SUNSET’s solution supports long-term environmental stewardship while reinforcing the sustainability of the energy transition.
“Recognition by Canada’s Clean50 affirms the importance of integrating end-of-life planning into renewable energy development,” said Daniel Carrocci, President of SUNSET Renewable Asset Management Inc. “This award reflects our commitment to delivering scalable, practical solutions that reduce environmental risk, recover valuable resources, and strengthen Canada’s circular economy.”
Since its establishment, SUNSET has decommissioned renewable energy infrastructure across Canada, processed tens of thousands of end-of-life solar modules, and delivered lifecycle and reclamation services for gigawatts of renewable capacity. As a fully Indigenous-owned company, SUNSET remains committed to responsible resource management, innovation, and sustainable economic development.
The Clean50 Top Project Award further positions SUNSET as a national leader in renewable asset stewardship and reinforces the company’s role in advancing sustainable infrastructure practices across the renewable energy sector.
The project also won Conestoga’s SMART Centre the Triple Bottom Line Award at the Tech Access Canada TAC Innovate Conference 2025. The award recognizes a TAC-led project or collaboration that had significant social, environmental and economic impacts.
The SMART Centre is the region’s hub for innovation, helping small, medium and large businesses overcome challenges in manufacturing, information technology, automotive, health tech, food and beverage and zero-emissions industries. Phase two of the project is expected to start in January, during which the research team will focus on expanding the range of materials that can be recaptured, supporting the goal of making solar panels part of a truly circular economy.
